Illustration and Dragon Art by C Hope

I've been drawing dragons for as long as I can remember. I've always been fascinated by them and their various mythologies and to me dragons are beautiful terrifying monsters so that's how I try to portray them. Over the years I've developed my own design based on the western type that uses wings along with four limbs. I used horses, the human form, lizards and Giger's monster from the original 1979 film, Alien, for inspiration and came up with something that works for me. I like to sketch them out first using pencil or pen, for anatomy and composition, before working them up onto large scale canvas or board. At that point, I'll work out the colour scheme and paint the image using acrylics which for me is the best medium for blending and working quickly.

I've had the opportunity to create illustrations for magazines like Murky Depths, Dark Tales and Morpheus Tales. For links to those associated websites, check out the gallery descriptions in Illustrations. The images I create are very much in the horror, science fiction and fantasy genres and I work mostly in pen and ink  for black and white interior work, and gouache or acrylic for full colour cover art. And I prefer traditional methods to digital. Guess I'm just a fan of the smell and feel of paint and paper in the morning.

I'm open to queries about other projects like tattoo designs, stand alone paintings, portraits or anything else related to art. As far as I'm concerned, the sky's the limit so if you want to challenge me, get in touch.
